Frequently asked questions

The app does not react when I play.
Look at the small level bar next to AUTO. If it moves when you make a sound, the microphone is working and the app just isn't hearing a clear note — play one string at a time, closer to the phone, in a quieter spot. If the bar never moves, or shows a crossed-out microphone, access is off: iOS Settings → Cloud Tuner → Microphone. The app never opens Settings on its own.

I said no to the microphone. What now?
The app still works. Tap any string on the headstock to hear its reference note and tune by ear. To let the app listen instead, turn the microphone on in iOS Settings → Cloud Tuner. Tapping the crossed-out microphone icon in the header shows the explanation again.

What is the bar next to AUTO?
A level meter for the microphone: green when it hears something, orange and then red as it gets louder. It's there so you can tell at a glance whether the app is hearing you at all.

Can I tune one string at a time?
Yes. Auto mode follows whichever string you play; tap a peg on the headstock to lock the tuner to that string instead. A tapped string also plays its reference note.

How do I know a string is in tune?
Get the marker inside the middle lane and hold it there for about half a second. The string locks in with a chime and stays marked as tuned while you work through the rest. Above the grid you'll see TUNE UP or TUNE DOWN with the exact offset in cents until then.

The tuner stopped after a call or when I plugged in headphones.
It resumes by itself once the interruption ends. If another app is holding the microphone, a strip at the top says so; close that app and Cloud Tuner picks up again.

Which tunings are supported?
Standard (E A D G B E), Drop D and Half Step Down. Pick one from the selector in the top left corner.

Does it need internet?
No. Everything happens on your device.
