This policy describes how Retrolift ("the app") collects, uses, and protects your information.
Two ways to use the app
As a guest. You can start without signing in. The app creates an anonymous account for you — a random identifier with no name, email or anything else attached — and your training is stored under it. That account lives only on the device you created it on: delete the app and there is no way back to it. You can attach an Apple ID to it at any time from Settings, which keeps everything you have logged.
Signed in with Apple. Apple gives the app an email address and, on the very first sign-in only, your name. If you choose Hide My Email, the address we receive is Apple's private relay address rather than your real one. There is no password: the app never sees, creates or stores one. The name is shown in the app and you can change it in Settings at any time. Signing in is what lets your training sync between devices and survive a reinstall.
Information we collect
- Account information — nothing for a guest; email and name as described above once you sign in with Apple.
- Training data — your exercise library, workout blueprints, every session you log (sets, reps, weights, notes), your progression level on each exercise, and your workout history.
- Photos you attach to exercises — optional. If you add a photo to one of your own exercises, it is reduced to a small thumbnail (about 160 pixels square) and stored with that exercise so it appears on your other devices. The original photo is never uploaded, and the app never reads your photo library: the picker you choose from is Apple's, and only the single photo you pick reaches the app.
We do not collect location data, contacts, or any device identifiers for advertising purposes. The app contains no advertising or third-party analytics or tracking SDKs.
Tips
Settings has a tip jar — a single one-off in-app purchase that unlocks nothing. The purchase is made and processed entirely by Apple through the App Store; the app never sees your payment details, and no record of the tip is stored with your training data.
Calendar access
The app can optionally add planned workouts to your calendar. It asks for calendar permission only when you use that feature, writes only the events you create, and does not read or upload your other calendar entries. You can revoke access at any time in iOS Settings.
How we use your information
- To create and authenticate your account.
- To store and sync your workout data across your devices.
- To recognise you when you sign in again on the same or another device.
We do not sell your information, use it for advertising, or share it with third parties for their own purposes.
How your information is stored
Sign in with Apple is handled by Apple. Your account — anonymous or Apple-linked — and your training data, including any exercise thumbnails, are stored using Google Firebase (Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore). Data is transmitted between the app and Firebase over encrypted HTTPS/TLS connections. See Firebase's privacy documentation for details on Google's handling of this data.
Your data is retained for as long as your account exists. A guest account that is never linked to an Apple ID becomes unreachable when the app is deleted. What it held is anonymous and cannot be traced to anyone, but it is not automatically removed — if you want it gone, delete the account from Settings before you delete the app.
Deleting your account and data
You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from Settings inside the app. Choose Delete Account; if you are signed in with Apple you confirm with Apple, and as a guest it happens immediately. This permanently removes every workout, blueprint, exercise, photo thumbnail and setting from Firestore, revokes the app's Apple sign-in token where there is one, and deletes the account itself. Nothing is kept afterwards. You can also email the address below and I will delete it within a reasonable time after verifying the request.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
